* Working web analytics into your business culture

If you’re a newcomer to this field, this is the workshop for you. If you are an old timer, this workshop will put it all back into perspective.

Newcomers: Everything you need to know but didn’t know to ask.
Practitioners: Everything you need to know but were afraid to ask.
Veterans: Everything you know but haven’t seen all in one place.

The web analytics continuum is wide as well as deep. Understanding the variety of possible metrics and what they reveal is prerequisite to managing your website and measuring website success.

This day-long WAA Base Camp workshop will prepare you for the climb into the higher altitudes of online campaign optimization, on-site traffic analysis and conversion optimization.
What Will You Learn?
The Wide Variety of Metrics

You already know about measuring visitors, visits, sessions and dwell time. This workshop will cover how to measure navigational changes, search term trends, shopping cart content and more. Much more.
Web Metrics Terminology

Clickthroughs and pageviews are just the beginning. After this workshop, you’ll be able to speak knowledgeably about log files vs. page tagging, cookie deletion, unique visitors, visits, sessions, Key Performance Indicators and conversion ratios.
How To Identify the Most Valuable Metrics

“Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”
- Albert Einstein

How To Manage a Metrics Team

You will explore the skills required to extract, massage and understand web metrics as well as identify areas of responsibility.

What’s on the Agenda?
A Short History of Web Metrics

The tools have dictated what we know so far. As the technology changes, our knowledge grows. We’ll start with a look at how data is gathered from server logs and compare and contrast that to current page tagging technologies.

Where Do They Come From?

Keeping track of how people get to your site is essential to measuring the value of your promotional dollars. We’ll explore the metrics behind banner ads, newsletter links, and email marketing.
What Do They Want?

Most site visitors come to you from search engines. Search engines are kind enough to divulge which terms those visitors used to find you. That, coupled with the terms used in your own on-site search show what people want and how they describe it; invaluable insight for the marketer.
How Do They Maneuver?

Cumbersome navigation is the nemesis of every website designer and the nightmare of every surfer. Web analytics reveals where people go wrong on your site.
Calculating Conversion

Turning browsers into buyers is a fine old online tradition and web analytics shows the way. Recency, frequency, abandonment, and attrition all apply whether your site actually sells goods and services or not. We’ll look into clickpath and shopping cart analysis.

First the music track was decoupled from the physical product and the "long player" album, then the newspaper article was severed from the website. The same wave rolled over the blog post, the TV show, the photo, the vlog, and now the tweet...

It seems like everything's gone micro. As content is disaggregated into ever smaller pieces and syndicated and widgetised at accelerating speed, how is the media landscape being re-shaped, and who are the winners in this scenario?

Are media owners caught between a rock and a hard place? They've got to get their content out there, but context and branding work differently in the world of mashups and aggregators. In turn, the revenues they make from micro media pale in comparison to their staple money-making ventures (print, CDs, TV, DVD, film).

P2P culture is also firmly embedded, with iTunes and other digital retailers numbers' still dwarfed by ripping and filesharing. Now media giants like Microsoft and the BBC are using P2P technnology, but has their deeper modus operandi shifted? Are they fated to be outpaced and outgunned by innovative companies who play by different rules?

In turn, is the profusion of micro-content a recipe for meltdown, with information overload and competing "me-too" platforms delivering little but dumb aggregation which ultimately becomes a headache?

In this, the sequel to our groundbreaking Media Widgetised / Widget Week event in May 2007, our panel of experts will look at the issues and opportunities surrounding the explosion of micro media for publishers, brands, business, and culture more broadly...
International Search Summit

  Date:
          22 May 2008 - 09:00

  Location:
      London

Produced by multilingual search specialist WebCertain, the International Search Summit will give delegates the knowledge required to implement successful international search engine marketing campaigns in multiple languages. Thought-leaders, industry analysts, consultants and international marketers will identify and discuss the latest challenges, insights, tools and techniques in international search marketing.

The International Search Summit will be held on 22 May at the British Library, London. See www.internationalsearchsummit.com

Andy Atkins-Krüger who is recognised as one of the UK's foremost international search marketing experts and is a well known international speaker on multilingual search will chair the summit, introducing a line up of presentations, case studies and panel debates. Speakers will include representatives from Microsoft and Xerox as well as leading international search experts including Barry Lloyd of MakeMeTop, Kristjan Mar Hauksson of Nordic eMarketing and Dixon Jones of Receptional.

Andy Atkins-Krüger says:

“It clear that search marketing is a fundamental part of any online business marketing plan, and many operators now have an understanding of how to achieve success in the UK using this effective marketing tool. As businesses look to expand into new lucrative global territories they will need to implement an international search marketing plan which targets markets through multilingual campaigns. The international market presents a number of new challenges for online marketers so, for the first time in the UK, we have produced a Summit which focuses entirely on international and multilingual search to help businesses marketing on a European and global scale.”

The Web and Beyond 2008: Mobility

"The Web is in a state of motion: no longer is it primarily being accessed through PCs, but more and more does it find its way into our phones, our cars, on the streets and in buildings. And once there, the Web is interacting with us in smarter and richer ways than before. Bluetooth or RFID in a busstop personalises the map and advertisements, your friend’s car knows today’s best way to your home, your mobile phone suggests the best place to eat tomorrow, oh, and your online best friends (all 176 of them) will know you have been there before you have a chance to tell them."
